Michelin’s management apologized Monday to its employees at the La Combaude compound in Clermont, surprised and outraged at having discovered a hidden camera in a break room.
According to him, the management began by denying before acknowledging that the device had been installed “to avoid malicious acts against the delivery man of sweets and drinks.”
Contacted by AFP, Michelin confirmed that a camera had indeed been installed after “repeated acts of vandalism, damage and theft” observed at these interchanges for several months. However, he points out, the device has “never been connected” because the damage has not been renewed.
Michelin “will carry out an internal investigation”
Aware of the “emotion” of the latter after this finding, Michelin “acknowledges that it would have been essential to inform the representative bodies of the staff and workers before the installation of the camera”, and presents “its apologies to all the employees affected”. Michelin “will carry out an internal investigation and take appropriate action,” the group said.
The unions will seize the National Commission for Informatics and Liberties (Cnil) and the Labor Inspectorate, and the issue will be put on the agenda of the next CSE, on July 20, at Michelin Clermont, he adds.
The Combaude industrial site, which has about 500 employees, manufactures baking molds and textile reinforcements for the other factories in the group. Michelin’s various sites in Clermont-Ferrand have just over 12,000 employees, out of the group’s 20,000 in France. In total, the French tire giant employs 112,000 people worldwide.
