While the tobacconists were “exceptionally affected” by the riots that occurred after the death of the young Nahel, killed by a policeman during a road check, the FDJ and the PMU have implemented “beneficial measures” and “adapted” to the situation, greeted AFP Philippe Coy, president of the Confederation of tobacconists.
The horse betting operator PMU, which estimates its loss of activity linked to the riots at “several tens of millions of euros”, has thus indicated that it will quickly replace the 1,000 PMU equipment (betting terminals, touch screens, cash registers, TPE , etc.) out of service, a gesture that cost around a million euros.
The PMU has also announced that it will grant cash advances to tobacconists who need them and that it will temporarily increase their commission rate on bets at the end of the year in order to provide them with “concrete financial help” to “end the year better”. “.
484 tobacco shops damaged
The FDJ, which registers degradations in 400 of its approximately 30,000 points of sale, promised for its part the deferral of direct debits and the “case by case” management of unpaid invoices from vandalized businesses with treasury problems.
According to the latest report from the Confederation of tobacconists, 484 tobacconists suffered damage, “including 45 to 50 establishments set on fire” and completely destroyed, said Philippe Coy, who estimated “the accident rate at around 20 million euros.”
“About 50% of our colleagues have resumed activity this weekend” but “now what we are waiting for are State measures,” he added.
