SNCF: how will the new luggage storage service work?

SNCF announced on Tuesday that it would once again offer luggage lockers at around thirty stations as part of a partnership with the start-up company Nannybag.

The SNCF is preparing to relaunch its luggage storage service, this time in collaboration with the start-up Nannybag, which has been investing in this market since 2016. “Gares & Connexion will offer our storage facilities near stations where there is no storage solution of luggage precisely, explained this morning in BFM Business Matthieu Ballester, co-founder of the start-up.

“The advantage of Nannybag is that we can deploy very quickly, he continues. We can have a strong expansion since it is enough to prospect in certain cities and have places. Therefore, the SNCF will visit us in some cities in France.

No less than thirty SNCF network stations will be affected by this contest won by Nannybag, valid for one year extendable for two more years, including Paris Saint-Lazare, Bayonne, La Rochelle, Grenoble, Nice and Metz.

Signs with QR codes in stations

To take advantage of this new service, travelers must go to the mobile application or the Gares et Connexion site, which will mention the existence of these luggage lockers according to the selected stations. They will then be automatically redirected to the Nannybag mobile app.

“There will also be posters throughout the station with QR codes”, specifies Matthieu Ballester. The price will be 6 euros per day and per piece of luggage, to be paid online before the deposit.

If a quantified objective has not yet been set, the co-founder of the start-up indicates that it will be necessary to observe a certain regularity in reservations while the SNCF will be attentive to the customer experience.

Classic lockers still exist in 13 of the largest French stations, such as Paris Gare de Lyon, Bordeaux Saint-Jean, Lyon Part-Dieu or Marseille Saint-Charles. In the rest of the stations, the ticket offices were gradually closed for security reasons (they had to be moved away from the flow of passengers to avoid attacks) but also for reasons of profitability.
