Michel-Edouard Leclerc explained on Sunday at LCI that the price increases granted to the industrial suppliers of the E.Leclerc centers are only transferred to the stores after a period of three months, allowing the distributor to be more competitive during this period . For “any price increase by a supplier, we wait three months before applying it,” declared Michel-Edouard Leclerc, president of the strategic committee of the Leclerc distribution group.
Following this roadmap, Michel-Edouard Leclerc details having achieved “800,000 additional customers in Leclerc centers since January.”
End of next trade negotiations on January 15
Every year between December and March 1, supermarkets negotiate with their agro-industrial suppliers the conditions of sale of their production that will then be marketed on the shelves. On Wednesday, the Government presented to the Council of Ministers a bill to advance the date of negotiations between distributors and the 75 largest manufacturers, such as Danone, Coca-Cola, Lactalis or Heineken, for example. The objective of this measure would be to more quickly reflect the reductions of a certain number of wholesale prices in the sales prices on the shelves, ending negotiations on January 15, instead of the usual March 1.
Until now, the price battle between manufacturers and distributors took place in a context of rampant inflation, while now prices have begun to fall, although inflation is still at a high level.
