Autoeuropa resumes production today after being halted due to a lack of parts

The Autoeuropa car factory, in Palmela, resumes production on Monday, after a shutdown that began on September 11 due to a lack of parts at a factory in Slovenia that was affected by the country’s floods.

The Volkswagen Group company announced on September 20 that it would resume production today, October 2, albeit with fewer shifts than normal, but the resumption of activity, initially planned for November 12, with more than would be brought forward by a month. .

Autoeuropa has brought forward the resumption of activities to today, after securing the supply of a fundamental part for the T-Roc, the only vehicle produced at the Palmela plant, in the district of Setúbal, by a Spanish and a Chinese company, thanks to work carried out by the logistics and purchasing departments of the German brand.

The company was forced to announce a nine-week production stop, from September 11 to November 12, due to problems at a supplier in Slovenia, which was severely affected by the floods that occurred in that country in early August.

However, the company assured at the time that it was looking for alternative solutions to resume production as soon as possible, as is now confirmed with the expected resumption of production from November 12 to today, October 2.

Autoeuropa is a company with a major impact on the Portuguese economy, representing 1.5% of the national gross domestic product (GDP).

The production stop at the Palmela factory has affected dozens of Portuguese suppliers, including several companies in the Autoeuropa Industrial Park, which have already announced the layoffs of 325 workers in precarious employment.

Autoeuropa had also announced the layoff of 100 temporary workers due to the production stoppage, but guaranteed from the start that they would be called up immediately as soon as production resumed.
