Free fries every Friday. In the United States, fast food giant McDonald’s is renewing its “Free Fries Friday” operation until the end of the year. More specifically: for every order of at least $1, a medium portion of fries is added free. But it’s not about free fries at American restaurants either: the offer is only valid once every Friday and only if the order was placed through the McDonald’s app.
This commercial operation has been carried out for several years in the United States. A way for McDonald’s to promote the use of its application. In addition to ordering menus or locating restaurants, the latter allows you to accumulate points, in exchange for which it is possible to obtain free products. Orders placed through the McDonald’s app accounted for approximately 40% of all sales in the first quarter of 2023.

Last March, also in the United States, McDonald’s began implementing a new geolocation function in its application. The objective is to follow the movements of a customer who has placed an order through this same application, so that the fries served are hot enough without having to wait too long: an alert is sent to the restaurant and it is notified when a customer who has placed an order is three minutes away from placing it.
