The average total monthly gross salary per employee increases by 5.9% in the third quarter

The average total monthly gross salary per employee (per job) increased to 1,438 euros in the third quarter, 5.9% more than in the same period in 2022, the National Statistical Institute (INE) announced today.

In a statement, INE states that the regular part and the basic part of that remuneration have increased by 6.2% and 6.6%, to 1,216 euros and 1,145 euros respectively.

But in real terms, based on the variation in the consumer price index, the average total monthly gross salary increased by 2.4%, while the regular and basic components increased by 2.6% and 3.0%.

This is the fifth month in a row in which real wage increases have been recorded since November 2021.

These results include 4.7 million jobs, corresponding to social security beneficiaries and subscribers of Caixa Geral de Aposentações, 3.8% more than in the same period of 2022.

Compared to September 2022, the average total monthly gross compensation has increased in all dimensions of analysis (economic activity, company size, institutional sector, technological intensity and knowledge intensity).

The largest increases were observed in the “extractive industries”, in companies with 1 to 4 employees (7.1%), in the private sector (6.3%) and in companies in the “knowledge-intensive market services” (9.0%) .
