While between the aborted Franco-German Council of Ministers and the tensions around the European anti-aircraft shield, relations between France and Germany are not looking good, the Minister of Economy speaks in a German newspaper to defend the nuclear French. In an interview in Frankfurter AllgemeineBruno Le Maire rejects “inappropriate” criticism of this usage.
And to add: “When it comes to energy, we have a different approach: we believe in nuclear energy, Germany wants to do without it. How can we continue to build European energy independence on this basis? C is the central question.”
“Put differences on the table”
Differences of opinion weighing more and more on Franco-German relations?
“I think one of the mistakes of Franco-German friendship is trying to put differences aside. I myself have always been in favor of putting differences on the table to overcome them. Regarding energy, we in France believe that we need nuclear energy to achieve climate protection and decarbonize our economy. On the other hand, there are real similarities, for example, with hydrogen. Our common strategic goal can be summed up in one word: independence.”
