Sodiaal: an acid leak at the Quimper factory causes the evacuation of staff

The incident caused the release of irritant gas, which required the evacuation of employees and the confinement of merchants around the plant.

A hydrochloric acid leak was reported Wednesday morning at a factory of the second French dairy group Sodiaal in Quimper, whose staff were evacuated, a press release from the Finistère prefecture announced.

“After the expertise carried out, a maximum effluent volume of 17m3 was found,” he added.

Potential impacts on the environment

As a security measure, the forty factory employees present at 5 am had to be evacuated, the traffic axes were closed while the employees of the stores near the site were confined.

At 9:30 a.m., the intervention of the fire brigade had made it possible to stop the leak and lift the containment.

Sodiaal collects 20% of French milk and employs 10,000 people. The group owns brands such as Candia, Yoplait or Entremont.
