Pepito cookies, Pim’s, Granola and even Petit Écolier are about to return to supermarkets. The giant Mondelez, its manufacturer, had closed its Cestas factory in Gironde to clean up after a salmonella alert at its cocoa supplier. Production “has just gradually resumed,” the company announced in a press release, which however specifies that it has not yet returned to its usual level.
precautionary measure
The Swiss group Barry Callebaut, Mondelez’s cocoa supplier, detected traces of salmonella last June at its Belgian factory in Wieze, where it contributes 15% of its production. The company had stopped all production lines at the Flemish plant to carry out the cleaning. As a precaution, especially after the setbacks at Kinder in the spring, Mondelez had preferred to stop production in turn to eliminate any risk of contamination at its biscuit factory in Gironde.
A stoppage of production that had caused a shortage of stock of certain references of the group in supermarkets since the beginning of August and that lasted until September.
