Pension reform: Philippe Martinez plans “renewable strikes”

The general secretary of the CGT was the guest of BFMTV on Tuesday night at the end of a new day of mobilization against the government’s pension reform.

“Given the level of mobilization, if the government does not move, the next step will have to be taken.” The general secretary of the CGT Philippe Martinez was the guest of BFMTV this Tuesday night, at the end of a new day of mobilization against the pension reform.

This Tuesday, February 7, about 2 million protesters -according to the union- opposed the government’s text while the Ministry of the Interior announced 757,000 protesters throughout France. A downward mobilization since the day of January 31 during which 2.8 million people had demonstrated according to the CGT compared to 1,272 million according to the Interior.

“It is not Martínez who decides”

“However, the Government and the President of the Republic are acting as if nothing were happening in the country,” continued Philippe Martínez, who sees the renewable strike as a new modus operandi for the Government to renounce its reform.

“Employees and citizens are clear: we will have to put in a lot more, do a lot more for the President of the Republic to give in. This implies strikes and certainly renewable strikes. After that, it is a matter of time”, said Philippe. Martinez on our antenna.

A matter of time… and of strikers, as the trade unionist recalls: “It is not Martínez who decides […] The unions are proposing forms of action, but who is going on strike? It’s not just the union members, it’s the employees.”
