Pensions: after the rejection of the motions of censure, the mobilization continues, new actions planned for Tuesday

In many cities, actions are being carried out this Tuesday, March 21, to protest against the pension reform, the day after the rejection of two motions of censure in the National Assembly.

The mobilization does not decline. Thousands of people took to the streets on Monday night after the failure of the motions of no confidence in the National Assembly at the end of the afternoon. Before the great day of mobilization scheduled for Thursday at the initiative of the unions, this Tuesday actions are organized, in particular blockades at the entrance of several cities in France.

This will be the case of Lyon, where an appeal has been launched for a “dead city”. “Nothing goes in or out, the economy has come to a standstill on a city scale. Starting Tuesday, the city of Lyon will be affected,” we were able to read in a Telegram message that circulated on Monday, reports our colleagues from France 3 Regions.

Demonstrations in various cities

Filter dams will also be organized throughout the day in Toulouse and Beauvais. In smaller municipalities, such as Henvic in Brittany or Toulon-sur-Allier, actions of this type are also planned.

In Marseille, the CGT stevedores will go before the Bouches-du-Rhône Departmental Council to challenge the elected officials at 9:00 am.

In Rennes, starting at 2:00 p.m., a demonstration will take place in front of the judicial court in support of the protesters in pretrial detention after arrests during the demonstrations.

Waiting for a new day of action on March 23 at the call of all the unions, the strike has intensified in the refineries and the garbage collectors continue their movement in Paris, Rennes or Nantes, where the torchlight marches will have place at night.

“Amplify the mobilizations”

In transport, on the SNCF side, 4 TGVs of 5, 6 Intercités of 10 and 2 TER of 3 will circulate this Tuesday, at the start of the third week of the renewable strike against the pension reform.

The union calls for “widening the mobilizations” and “participating massively in renewable strikes and demonstrations” on Thursday, March 23, “and afterwards, if necessary.”

The general secretary of the CFDT, Laurent Berger, also called on the employees to “mobilise on Thursday, within the framework of inter-unionism, with the same sense of responsibility” as since January to demand the withdrawal of the reform.

He said he was concerned about the “anger” and “violence” that could be expressed as a result of the approval of a law that “does not have a majority in the National Assembly”, while affirming that the unions would not be “responsible for what happens if would not be under the trade union slogan”.
