Finally a helping hand? Elisabeth Borne invited the unions on Tuesday to a meeting in Matignon next week, just as the centrals were organizing the 10th day of mobilization against the pension reform. A meeting is scheduled for next Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. In any case, it will be before the 11th round of demonstrations that will take place on Thursday, April 6.
The inter-union has been asking for a gesture from the executive for weeks. In particular, he had written to the President of the Republic to exchange with him. It remains to be seen what issues will be discussed with the prime minister, especially since Matignon was careful not to specify the agenda.
However, the macronie has left clues in recent days. Both Élisabeth Borne and Emmanuel Macron said they were “available” to the inter-union to discuss “professional burnout, the end of careers, recycling, professional development, working conditions” or even “remuneration in certain branches”. . But not pensions.
The Government rejects a “mediation”
The members of the presidential camp take turns in the media and affirm one by one that the bill “is already behind us.” All refer the fate of the text to the opinion of the Constitutional Council. The Mayors have until April 21 to decide on the conformity of the reform. The executive is waiting for the green light to gain legitimacy.
Meanwhile, he remains adamant. In this war of positions, it was Laurent Berger who changed his speech a bit. It is no longer a question of withdrawing from the reform, but of leaving it on hold. The number 1 of the CFDT asks for a “mediation”a “discussion” around “3 or 4 people” for a month and a half.
But, once again, the government does not budge. “We don’t necessarily need mediation to talk to each other. We can talk to each other directly,” he said. olivier veran this Tuesday at the end of the Council of Ministers.
It’s not about touching 64 years
Despite this inadmissibility, “we will go” to the meeting with the prime minister, Laurent Berger explained in the evening. But his counterparts are not so positive. “It requires a prior discussion between us,” says the CFE-CGC. The same is happening with Solidaire and also with the CGT, which is preparing the aftermath of Philippe Martínez in a climate of tension rarely seen within the union organization.
For its part, the Executive wants to demonstrate dialogue. Elisabeth Borne’s environment indicates that “the unions will be able to deal with all the issues they want”. From there to negotiate?
For the postponement of the age of majority to 64 years, it is niet. This is the “heart of the reform”, defended this Wednesday Franck Riester, Minister of Relations with Parliament. “We cannot change lines at this time”, also estimated François Bayrou, head of the MoDem.
“Working conditions” and “shared value”
In line with their initial statements, the presidential camp prefers to project itself. During the Matignon meeting, it will mainly be about exchanging on “working conditions”, “sharing value”, explained Sylvain Maillard in France Info.
And the Renaissance deputy from Paris added that these issues will be the subject of “texts that we want to bring in the coming weeks”, among them, in particular, that of full employment.
However, it will be difficult for the government to maintain the status quo.
“Lack of solutions”
But what is left in the executive’s arsenal? A huge social conference with billions on the table? “It would be incompatible with the end at all costs and at the Élysée we consider that it would be useless”, judge Matthieu Croissandeau.
What about the possibility of a political gesture? With, for example, a postponement of the age of majority to 63 years instead of 64 or the use of article 10 of the Constitution to trigger a new reading of the text. “I’m not sure all this is enough or that the executive wants it.”
Conclusion: “Having let the situation rot too much”, the government “finds itself lacking in solutions.”
