The 2022 tax filing campaign begins this Thursday, April 13 for online taxpayers and will end on May 25, June 1, or June 8, depending on the department of residence.
As every year, the General Directorate of Public Finance (DGFip) has put its “practical brochure” online, detailing the main new features that you should know when filing your tax return. Review.
• The revalued tax scale
As provided by the finance law of 2023, the income tax scale has been increased by 5.4% this year to account for inflation. This will allow many taxpayers pay less in taxes, even though they got pay raises.
• The revalued kilometer scale
The Government has decided to revalue the mileage scale by 5.4%. A tax measure that affects two million households that use their vehicle to go to work and choose to have their actual travel expenses deducted from their tax base instead of the 10% reduction.
• Tips exempt from taxes and desocialized
As Emmanuel Macron wanted, tips paid in 2022 and 2023 will be exempt from personal income tax and social security contributions. “The exemption only applies to employees who receive, for the months in question, a remuneration that does not exceed 1.6 Smic,” specifies the DGFip.
• Increased overtime limit
The ceiling for tax-exempt overtime for hours worked in 2022 is raised from 5,000 to 7,500 euros.
• Tax-exempt RTT monetization
Voted as part of the 2022 amending budget, the monetization of RTT is also exempt from personal income tax and contributions “within the limit of 7,500 euros with exempt overtime and additional hours”, indicates the tax administration.
• Deductible costs of shared trips
Taxpayers who have opted for real expenses instead of the 10% reduction may add to these expenses the car sharing expenses incurred in the trips made between their home and their place of work, becoming considered of “deductible professional expenses”. “.
• Increase in the tax credit for the employment of an employee in the household
Parents who take advantage of the tax deduction for child care will be able to benefit this year from an additional 600 euros that the Treasury returns for each child under 6 years of age. This increase is explained by the increase in the maximum amount that entitles this tax credit, which is now 3,500 euros, compared to 2,300 euros.
It should also be noted that taxpayers who benefit from the tax credit for hiring a home worker will have to specify in their return “the nature of the services for which these expenses were made.”
• New information on the tax notice
On their tax notice, taxpayers will now be able to find out the marginal tax rate as well as the average tax rate.
The marginal tax rate is the rate at which the taxpayer pays on the last tranche of his income (0, 11%, 30%, 41% or 45%). The average rate, for its part, allows you to know the participation that the tax represents in your income.
New obligation for owners
All property owners have until June 30, 2023 to declare the occupancy of their accommodation from the “Manage my property” space on the impots.gouv.fr website.
This obligation should make it possible, in particular, to know which owners must continue to pay the property tax.
