AHRESP calls for urgent measures for hotels and restaurants

AHRESP adds that the rise in gas and electricity costs is “currently endangering the sustainability of many companies and their jobs”.

In a statement, the Association says it hopes “that the government will urgently take measures that are also aimed at housing, catering and beverages”, she indicates.

“Despite the high demand that these activities have registered in the traditional peak summer season, the reality is that accommodation, catering and beverage companies have not yet been able to recover their coffers, which have been depleted by two years of pandemic, a situation that is highly exacerbated due to the current inflationary situation,” he adds.

The association recalls that “excessive increases in production costs, energy and raw materials (especially food), as well as the evolution of interest rates, drastically reduce companies’ margins, to the point that their sustainability and job retention are endangered, and this scenario is expected to worsen from next October”.

“The extraordinary business support plan recently presented by The government, although with some positive measures, cannot help but focus on these activities, which, it is recognized, play a weight and fundamental role in the recovery desired for our economy, and therefore urgent and robust measures are needed to support corporate treasuries”underlined.

AHRESP also warns that “the persistence of this inflationary situation and the rise in interest rates will certainly also endanger consumers’ purchasing power, with a direct and immediate impact on the revenues of these companies”.

“AHRESP believes that the government recognizes the vital importance of the HORECA channel for the recovery of the Portuguese economy, with the corresponding and necessary application of specific measures for our companies, namely in terms of reducing the tax burden, because only on In this way it is possible to guarantee the continuity of the company and their jobs”, he states.
