The Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Maire, called this Thursday night for the “responsibility of the industrialists” of the agri-food industry that they will receive on Wednesday, insisting again that they participate in the collective effort to limit the rise in prices.
“Industrialists are not playing the game, they refuse to return to the negotiating table to negotiate lower prices,” Bruno Le Maire declared on TMC’s Quotidien program when he received distributors who “played the game” during the day. He also announced that he would host the industrialists on Wednesday.
Bruno Le Maire calls for a reopening of trade negotiations between manufacturers and distributors, “at a time when wholesale prices are falling.” Without giving a name, he has declared that these industrialists who do not “play the game”, “are large industrial companies that represent a very high turnover, of several billion euros, with several thousand jobs”.
“They don’t have to take advantage of this crisis”
“When prices skyrocketed they called me to the rescue,” he said, addressing the food industry. “I answered present, everyone played the game,” he added. “I say to the industrialists: we helped them when it was not convenient for them. Now I appeal to your sense of responsibility, ”he said. “They don’t have to take advantage of this crisis,” said the economy minister.
“When the prices of electricity and gas skyrocketed, we went out to recover the surpluses of the energy companies, if the industrialists do not want to show a sense of responsibility, we will do the same with the industrialists,” he warned again. .
During this meeting, the heavyweights of large distribution “collectively called on the government to take concrete steps to bring industrialists to the negotiating table,” said Dominique Schelcher, CEO of System U.
