As shown in the video above, I recently interviewed the end of halloween co-writer / director at the film’s press day in New York, and at the end of our conversation, I asked a specific question about Nick Castle’s cameo. Green began by explaining that he wanted to let James Jude Courtney play Michael Myers for the entire film (the actor had played the character most of the time in the previous two films), but he felt special loyalty to Castle and still wanted that would allow it. just do it. be there on the screen. Says the director,
I am so passionate about the fantastic work Jim Courtney has done with Shape that I wanted to make sure our final presentation of his performance in this role was one hundred percent his. And I became very close to Nick and I love him. Now read the first drafts of my scripts. He’s one of my mentors and I love getting his notes from him. I love to keep him involved creatively, and it’s just a wonderful, optimistic personality that if you know him, you come to love him.
Moving on, David Gordon Green said he decided to meet Nick Castle to find a role to play end of halloween. Castle was reluctant to take on a role without a mask, but Green convinced him to wear a trench coat and a skin-colored suit with visible human organs:
I was asking him, I said, “Michael Myers is well looked after”. I want Jim to be one hundred percent Michael in this movie. What can we do with you? Because I can’t not have you in the movie. He then he says, “Well, I’ve never played before.” I am not an actor. And I said, ‘Oh, we’ll see. So we gave her a fun look in this Slim Goodbody type dress. It was great to have him in front of the camera without a mask being Nick. And you can see that infectious smile he has.
Nick Castle’s appearance in end of halloween – which he teased in June – is a wonderful easter egg in and of itself for fans … but it doesn’t stop there. While showing him his costume, Castle’s Flasher asks Allyson, “See anything you like?” which is a quote from the original Halloween (especially when PJ Soles’s Lynda sees Michael Myers with a sheet over her head posing as John Michael Graham’s Bob). David Gordon Green gave Castle full credit for the line, saying:
Oh, and this was his idea for the line, which is a nod to the original.
