An unexpected promotional move for Jul. This Tuesday, Guillaume Canet shared a new trailer for his film Asterix and Obelix, The Middle Kingdom which will be released in theaters on February 1, 2023.
But in this one, one scene especially caught the attention of viewers. From the first seconds of the teaser, Vincent Cassel, who plays Julius Caesar, makes a sign, with his hands joined and his thumbs apart. A nod to the gesture that has become Jul’s hallmark and thus creates a play on words with the name of the character “Jul” César.
The artist quickly reacted to this dedication on his Instagram account: “Vincent Cassel. I wasn’t ready! Thank you,” he commented seriously, sharing an excerpt from the scene.
A four star cast
In this new live-action adaptation of Uderzo and Goscinny’s famous comic, Asterix and Obelix come to the aid of the daughter of China’s Emperor Han Xuandi, who escapes the clutches of a renegade prince and flees to Gaul. But, unlike the previous films of the license signed by Alain Chabat or Thomas Langmann, this part, which is scheduled to be released in cinemas on February 1, 2023, is not inspired by any pre-existing comic strip.
It will be Guillaume Canet himself who will put on the Asterix suit. The replica will be given by Gilles Lellouche, who will have the difficult task of succeeding Gérard Depardieu in the role of Obelix.
If in a first trailer, unveiled at the end of September, viewers were able to discover part of the film’s cast (Marion Cotillard in Cleopatra, jonathan cohen in Graindemaïs…) Guillaume Canet once again lifts the veil over the rest of the renowned cast with this second teaser.
Thus we discover the faces and roles of the singer Angelarappers Orelsan and Bigflo and Oli, Youtubers McFly and Carlito or comedians Frank GastambideRamzy Bedia and Jose Garcia.
