For his first Christmas as monarch, Carlos III does not intend to break with tradition. He will therefore invite his family to Sandringham for a Christmas lunch, as the Queen has done for many years. This is where the sovereign has spent the last 32 Christmases, at the private residence of the British monarchs, Sandringham House.
Elizabeth II spent her last two Christmases in Windsor, with Philip in 2020, then alone, in 2021, after Philip disappeared in April 2021, due to the Covid epidemic. She even had to cancel the traditional pre-Christmas lunch with other members of the royal family.
Without Meghan and Harry
Charles will reconnect with this tradition this year and surround himself with close family, with the exception of his son Harry, Meghan Markle and their children, Archie and Lilibeth. The couple is due to receive a humanitarian award that must not work for family reunification on December 6. In fact, Harry and Meghan must be rewarded for their action against racism within the British monarchy.
According to BBC News, Buckingham has not confirmed if William, Kate and their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis will be there, but they are usually there.
The king is also preparing, according to the British media, to record his first Christmas message to his compatriots. A speech from which the queen acquitted herself to the end. In December 2021, during her last Christmas speech, Elizabeth had mentioned the absence of Prince Philip. “And for me and my family, even if a family laugh is missing, there will be joy at Christmas,” she said. This year, it is the queen’s that will be missing.
