This past August was a rough time for HBO Max subscribers, especially DC Comics media fans. Before the bad girl the film was dropped even though it had already been filmed, and a few weeks later it was announced that the streaming platform would release the anime series as well. Batman: caped crusader. However, while bad girl it will never see the light of day crusader with hat remained in production, and DC’s next TV show may have found its new streaming home.
During a keynote speech at Britain’s Content London conference, Warner Bros. TV chief Channing Dungey told Variety and other outlets covering the event in which The WB struck a deal with Amazon for DC animated content. Dungey didn’t mention directly Batman: caped crusader to Ravens, but assuming the deal pans out, it now seems like the best fit for the end of the animated series, as the original plan to put it on HBO Max is no longer on the table. The executive continues:
One of the interesting things that I’m excited about right now is that the previous management approach was much more like “Everything has to stay at home, we don’t want anything to come out”. David Zaslav has been much more open to us exploring all of our anime IPs and being able to do it on different platforms. HBO Max will definitely be our first stop, but we’re already closing a big deal with Amazon that will include some of our DC-branded content in animation.
If Warner Bros. and Amazon reach a deal, it would be another superhero media-focused deal that the latter company has done with a separate party. For one thing, Amazon will host Sony’s upcoming Spider-Verse TV shows, including Silk: Spider Society. Amazon also currently has superhero TV shows The boys Yes Invincibleas well as the recently released Sylvester Stallone film Samaritan, but a Batman show on the service would be especially important. More importantly, if you’re a fan of DC animation, you’ll want to make sure you’re subscribed to Amazon so you can keep up with those particular media offerings from this corner of the superhero media market.
While specific plot details are being kept under wraps, among the things we do know Batman: caped crusader is that it is a retelling of the titular hero’s mythology that will explore his early years fighting crime, before befriending Commissioner James Gordon. Batman: The Animated SeriesBruce Timm organizes crusader with hat with The Batman’s Matt Reeves and Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ JJ Abrams and Gotham City Central scribe Ed Brubaker. crusader with hat It also uses an advanced animation technique, so while the characters shouldn’t be expected to look drastically different from their traditional representations, it does appear that they will have a unique style.
If/when it is confirmed that Batman: caped crusader will go to Amazon, or when it’s announced what other DC animated projects will be housed there, we’ll let you know. In the meantime, HBO Max continues to be your best destination for not only watching lots of DC animated series, but also DC movies on order, both animated and live-action.
