Warning: SPOILERS for the Star Wars: The Bad Lot Season 2 premiere is upon us!
Count Dooku has been dead for some time now. Star Wars: The Bad Lot The second season begins, but the consequences of his actions during the Clone Wars are still felt. The first two episodes of the new season, “Spoils of War” and “Ruins of War”, saw Clone Force 99 travel to Castle Serenno, Dooku’s stronghold on his home planet of Serenno, to collect loot from the War Chest. Sith Lord before the Empire. he took it all. But bad luck The season 2 premiere didn’t just take us to Castle Serenno because it was a good piece of action; it was also meant to provide another perspective on the Clone Wars.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Star Wars: The Bad Lot executive producer/head writer Jennifer Corbett prior to the season 2 premiere, and among the questions I asked her and fellow executive producer/supervising director Brad Rau was why they decided to focus on these first two episodes on Count Dooku’s castle. Corbett informed me that it was a combination of giving them a risky mission and making Disney+ subscribers understand how Dooku amassed so much wealth during the Clone Wars. She explained:
We wanted the first mission to be very risky because the lot has been under the radar of the Empire since the end of Season 1. So we wanted that element, if they can pull it off it can be a big win for them, but if complications arise it could really cause problems for them. And when we talked about that, we really wanted to explore worlds influenced by the Clone Wars, and we really wanted to focus on this breakaway planet and the idea of Dooku’s castle… show all [Dooku’s] war chest and things that he acquired during the war, and allowing our team to see the opulence and see what was going on from another part of the war that they weren’t aware of, and Omega ignorant of just what was going on during the war and upgrade and learn from it.
Castello Serenno has been seen in several Star wars the battle of the clones episodes between season 3 and 6, but with Star Wars: The Bad Lot taking place after revenge of the sithWhen Anakin Skywalker beheaded Count Dooku, the fortress was in bad shape. So with the Empire Clearing House believing that Clone Force 99 died during the Imperial bombing of Kamino in Season 1, there was certainly no shortage of risk with Hunter, Tech, Wrecker, Echo and Omega trying to snatch a piece of that treasure. so that they could, as Cid said, buy their freedom. Sure enough, the mission didn’t go well, and though our heroes made it out of Serenno alive, none of the war chest contents made it with them.
More importantly, research into Castle Serenno has shown that Count Dooku, a man who already had a rich and prestigious past, didn’t just plunder other worlds during the Clone Wars; he has also taken in his own people, including Hector Elizondo’s Romar Adell, who has been in hiding since the Empire bombarded the world with him. Even Bad Batch’s resident mastermind Tech admitted he never considered this in all of his time fighting the Separatists and after. And for Omega, who had never left Kamino before Clone Force 99 entered his life, it gained more insight and context into the horrors of the Clone Wars.
Waiting for the next episode of Star Wars: The Bad Lot To make that happen, be sure to read Jennifer Corbett and Brad Rau’s comments on Ian McDiarmid’s Emperor Palpatine cycle in Season 2, as well as see what Dee Bradley Baker had to say about the Commander Cody reimagining later that season. . you can also stay Disney+ (opens in a new tab) watch the Star Wars movies in order or check out our guide to upcoming movies Star Wars movies and TV shows.
