James Cameron is known for his undying love of the ocean and his frequent use of the sea in his films. Avatar: the path of water is no exception and takes underwater scenes to the next level to produce an even bigger and more impressive viewing experience. Kate Winslet, in particular, was involved in many of the film’s underwater scenes and the famous actress held her breath underwater for seven minutes as she directed the film. Cameron recently revealed that while these scenes were technically difficult, it was a cathartic point for both of them.
In a recent interview with uh, the director opened up about filming the film that took 13 years to make. When discussing the parts of avatars 2 who were filmed underwater with Winslet, noted how encouraging it was for their partnership. He also talked about how their mutual love of water made the scenes cathartic. Cameron clarified:
I felt that he needed it therapeutically. We both needed catharsis. He was actually very excited about it because she thought of it as something physical that he could hold on to. First of all, he loves water. Her husband is very into board sports and kitesurfing and all that sort of stuff, so he is very, very comfortable in the water. In fact, he saw it as a way to prepare for her character, because Kate is about preparing and, metaphorically and physically, going deeper. She therefore she clung directly to him. But the thing is, her kids said, “Mom, don’t be stupid.” She creates Avatars’.
It seems like Winslet and Cameron had similar goals for their scenes in the film, which really helped the filmmaking process. Underwater scenes from Avatar: the path of water they’re absolutely spectacular, so their process was definitely effective. The CGI combined with the aquatic environment looks amazing on the big screen and you can tell that all the actors including Winslet put incredible effort into making the film as perfect as possible.
The success of Winslet’s scenes in the film probably stems from the mutual trust she shares with Cameron. The two have already worked together on Titanic, and the water scenes in this film are also great. Cameron put his actors through his paces during the filming of this film, so Winslet clearly knew what he was getting into. Cameron says he’s a kinder, calmer director now, so maybe that process wasn’t as intense. Still, the collaboration is iconic and they clearly work well together, having produced two incredible films.
What Titanic, Avatar: the path of water It is not only a cinematic success, but also a financial one. The film’s sequel will likely cross the $2 billion mark at the box office, exceeding expectations. This likely means that planned sequels will be greenlit, so we have more Avatars movies to look forward to. Details about avatars 3 are still under wraps, but Cameron’s love of the sea will likely continue to be an influence, so hopefully there will be even more impressive underwater footage to come.
