Unfortunately, Ronan was unable to be a part of the film due to a scheduling conflict. He was making a biopic called Overtaking about a woman returning to her childhood farm in Scotland after a period of alcohol rehabilitation. This project feels incredibly moving and important, so I understand why Ronan had to leave the role Barbie. However, I would have liked to see her work with Greta Gerwig again. Ronan has worked twice with Greta Gerwig, in ladybug Yes Little woman, which are incredible projects. Ronan has always supported the director and clearly enjoys working with her.
It always seems like Ronan wants to be part of the project in some way. The actress even approached Robbie and Gerwig about the possibility, saying:
I texted Margot and Greta and said, ‘If you go get something [shots]maybe i can walk along the bottom?
I think I speak for everyone we would like to see Saoirse Ronan in Barbie, even if it’s just in the background. As for the premise, Ryan Gosling revealed that his Ken was out of luck and needed Barbie’s help in the film, and Margot Robbie said the film was “something totally different” than you’d expect from a movie.
