Tom Brady has had a lot to do in the last year. Brady announced his retirement from football exactly one year ago but, just 40 days later, he retired from the NFL, a move that has drawn backlash from pundits and players alike. As well as wrapping up his 23rd season in the league, he’s also been promoting his upcoming comedy, 80 for Brady, which features football, Hollywood legends and Guy Fieri. The film premiered last night, during which Brady (mostly) rocked the red carpet himself, and now, hours later, the superstar has announced his plans to retire from soccer. (And this time, it’s serious.)
Tom Brady made the announcement this morning via an emotional video posted to Instagram. The athlete didn’t mince words, he got straight to the point and said that he would resign “forever”. Noting that he already took the opportunity to do a lengthy retirement essay last year, he simply thanked his family, coaches, colleagues and fans for their support before signing, saying he would love them all. . Well, this definitely feels definitive. The decision might be bittersweet for some of his fans, but it seems the 45-year-old seven-time Super Bowl winner is at peace with it. It definitely sounds like a good time for everyone involved, and I can’t think of a better way for someone to start their retirement. Honestly, this decision comes at an interesting time, as it comes just months after Tom Brady divorced his wife of 13 years, Gisele Bündchen. (The premiere of that movie was actually their first red carpet since their split.) There have been a lot of rumors surrounding what led up to the breakup, with some sources saying Bündchen was against her ex’s decision to step back. . While it remains speculation, what we do know is that she and Brady are currently working on co-parenting their two children. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneer has also been candid about life as a divorced father up until now.
All that aside, Tom Brady keeps himself busy, as evidenced by the comedy film Friends. 80 for Brady, which has received mixed reviews thus far. Movie projects won’t be the only work on the ex-footballer’s plate either, as it was reported months ago that Brady had signed a hugely lucrative TV deal with Fox Sports that would take effect following his retirement. .
