The Transgender Joker movie has just been pulled from TIFF, but the trailer is still out

Vera Drew was planning to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival with a film she wrote, directed and starred in, inspired by the legendary DC villain The Joker. Well, this will be another example of a The DC movie villain who didn’t shine with his own light … more or less. This transgender version of the Joker has been pulled from TIFF, but the trailer for him still exists online.

when the village joker was still in development, Vera Drew made sure to advertise it next movie in Twitter. However, Term reported that the independent director had withdrawn her film, the village joker, of the TIFF due to “rights issues” regarding its copyright protection. Warner Bros. Discovery has not yet said anything about whether the studio has declared its copyright protection rights for the use of The Joker.

Even though the film was pulled from TIFF, the trailer still exists for the world to see. try what the village joker has to offer below:

From the look of this wild trailer, it looks like it’s meant to be a parody of Joaquin Phoenix’s first trailer. Jester. We see a budding clown ready to take over the world. The only difference is that this film focuses on the origin story of this character discovering his transgender identity. In the film’s slogans, we see that Drake is aware that this film is illegal for his use of Joker, so it shouldn’t be surprising how much controversy would ensue. Obviously, this isn’t a movie that takes itself seriously.

The first showing of the village joker took place in Toronto as part of the Midnight Madness show. But shortly after the film premiered, an announcement of the film’s withdrawal was posted on the festival’s website. While other screenings were supposed to take place, they have now been canceled. If a controversial movie has been canceled, perhaps it should be taken as a sign that some things are destined to stay in the YouTube world as a fan video rather than trying to make a profit. Current ticket holders have been advised that they will receive an email from TIFF Customer Relations regarding their ticket purchases.

After the village joker was fired, Drew spoke in an extended interview about how she knew she had entered a legal gray area and was fully aware that she did not own The Joker or Batman. On the other hand, she specified that her film was intended as a parody. The Supreme Court says parody movies, like Horror movie, are protected by the First Amendment as a form of expression and rely on the fair use exception to prevent copyright infringement. So it’s possible this director thought the film would be allowed if it was called a parody. But the next DC movie doesn’t help either Joker: Madness for two with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga will attract a lot of attention, so now may not be the best time to test copyright law.

the village joker There may not be the first TIFF Vera Drew hoped for, but who knows? Perhaps this film could still be a reality if it is released as a fan video on YouTube. If not, the trailer will need to be enough for everyone to understand Drew’s vision of the Joker.
