This Thursday marks a special day for Prince Harry. The Duke of Sussex, back in the UK for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, blows out his 38 candles on September 15 in a setting that is anything but festive.
The last public appearance of Meghan Markle’s husband dates back to Wednesday night. The couple joined the royal family to pay tribute to the monarch, who died on September 8 at the age of 96. Dressed in black, they paraded in front of the Queen’s coffin at Westminster Hall.
No information has been leaked about how Prince Harry spent his birthday. It is his first time in the UK since he left the royal family in 2020 to move with his wife to California, where they live with his children Archie and Lilibet. They will be present in London at least until the Queen’s funeral on September 19.
Towards reconciliation?
Prince Harry has been at odds with his family since his decision to step down from his top royal post, following Oprah Winfrey’s settling of scores with Meghan. However, in the days after the Queen disappeared, he sent several signs of reconciliation, including when he and Meghan appeared with William and Kate in Windsor.
This is not the first birthday that has taken place in a dramatic context for Harry. His mother Diana’s funeral took place on September 6, 1997, nine days before his 13th birthday.
