So far Netflix has an impressive track record with Stephen King’s adaptations. In 2017, the streaming service created Mike Flanagan’s Gerald’s game (one of the best King movies of all time), followed by Vincenzo Natali in the tall grass in 2019. Now that legacy will be further extended with the release of John Lee Hancock Mr. Harrigan’s phone – who just released their first trailer online.
Written and directed by Hancock, Mr. Harrigan’s phone is based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, which was published in the 2020 collection if it bleeds (It is the first story in this book to have an adaptation.) The first images from the film arrived in late August, the day after the release date was announced, and now this preview provides our first look at the images from the film. .
Mr. Harrigan’s phone centers on Craig (Jaeden Martell), a teenager living in a small town in Maine who finds a part-time job helping an elderly and wealthy neighbor named Mr. Harrigan (Donald Sutherland). They eventually form a close bond incredibly quickly, and while Craig initially thought their relationship was over when Harrigan unexpectedly dies, their connection continues via an iPhone that the protagonist purchases as a gift for his friend and leaves in Harrigan’s coffin. . .
The Netflix movie is supposed to be a mix of supernatural horror story and coming-of-age drama, both of which are equally important in the novel.
In addition to Jaeden Martell and Donald Sutherland, both veterans of Stephen King’s adaptations, they respectively starred in THIS IS and 2004 sales lot miniseries – Mr. Harrigan’s phone is also played by Kirby Howell-Baptiste (as Craig’s teacher, Mrs. Hart) and Joe Tippett (as Craig’s father).
This will be Stephen King’s second film to be released in 2022, a few months after Keith Thomas’s. fire starter released in theaters and Peacock last May (the film by Gary Dauberman sales lot was supposed to come out this fall, but shouldn’t be released until at least 2023). The film has already received a good deal of positive feedback from King himself, with the author seeing a first cut of the feature and tweeting in early August that the film was “nothing short of brilliant”.
Mr. Harrigan’s phone will be available to stream on October 5th, one of many exciting Netflix movies coming in store for the final months of 2022.
