Fans have been waiting for the release of meets cute since it was announced Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson starred together . The seemingly unlikely couple brings magnetic appeal to the screen, and the fact that their love life has been in the public eye certainly doesn’t hurt the cause. meets cute is available for transmission with a peacock subscription but before its release, critics had a chance to screen the film and it’s no surprise that the relationship between the two actors played a big part in their reactions.
Alex Lehmann directs this time-traveling romantic comedy, in which we quickly discover that Sheila, played by Kaley Cuoco, has traveled back in time to relive the perfect day she met Gary, played by Pete Davidson. So let’s see what critics have to say about Cuoco and Davidson’s strange chemistry, starting with 24 News Bulletin’s review of meets cute . Nick Venable credits the film with 3.5 out of 5 stars, saying Cuoco is fantastic, if not a little crazy, and Davidson brings exactly what you’d expect, basically the low-key vibe of a guy who can get away with it. wear sweatpants on the red carpet . The review says:
As a time travel film duo, Sheila and Gary don’t change history like Bill and Ted, and they don’t get involved in terrible family circumstances like Doc and Marty. But her story is definitely another unique entry in the annals of cinema, and one that fans may want to revisit again and again, with or without a tanning booth in time.
Kate Erbland of indiewire he gives it a B rating, calling it a clunky but smart watch, noting that the main actors are “pretty damn nice together.” Here’s more from the review:
Don’t be fooled by the disgusting title and don’t get involved in Groundhog Day. Lehmann’s film is both a believable love story and a clever attempt to deconstruct what we love about love, both on the big screen and in the clutter of our daily lives. . Many elements of this romantic comedy (which is also a romantic comedy) don’t quite add up, with explanations of Sheila and Gary’s damaged psyche looking paper thin and made of film. However, things that work defy the whole genre; he’s both funny and smart as hell.
Emile Bernard of collider rates the film as B-, noting that it’s a bit sombre to be considered a romantic comedy, despite its comedic leads, and says the characters are more like best friends than potential lovers:
This film thrives on focusing on Sheila and Gary’s connection and their awkward and charming “reunion” jokes (though Sheila should know all about Gary) carefully crafted by writer Noga Pnueli. It is clear that these two make a great couple, not necessarily romantically, but as best friends. Their conversations and behavior play on the line between flirting and teasing like two old friends would. They bond on their mutual fair share of trauma and bright moments of hope in a dark world that restores their faith in humanity.
Lovia Gyarkye by THR It also has that platonic feeling, but points out that Kaley Cuoco is nearly flawless in the first act of the film. Time The Big Bang Theory the actress has chemistry with the ex Live Saturday night actor, in the second act they have lost their momentum and their relationship seems more brotherly. As it says in the review:
Despite its flaws, Meet Cute shines with potential. The film has some fascinating moments that make it easier to see what the filmmakers were trying to achieve. There’s something tempting about reliving the honeymoon period of a relationship, going back to when the passion exploded, but it’s not those early days or those feelings that create a winning or lasting romance. Meet Cute follows her creative path to a familiar conclusion: love, like the most intricate puzzles, takes time.
The movie just doesn’t work for Jordan Hoffman’s audiovisual club who qualifies meets cute a D. The actors are a game, says the critic, but the scenario is pedestrian:
Meet Cute has all the non-originality of a forgettable low-budget movie and delightful dialogue like when Kaley Cuoco says “everything!”, Plus a basic premise that it just doesn’t work. Don’t feel bad if you face this.
The performances by Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson were meant to carry this film forward, and it seems most critics were thrilled with their endeavors, although perhaps the romantic aspect was lacking a bit. meets cute is available to stream on Peacock, and be sure to check out these other movies and shows too See if you like Davidson .
