Covid-19: the Order of Doctors sanctions the radiologist and senator LR Alain Houpert

The disciplinary chamber of the Order of Physicians of Burgundy Franche-Comté issued on Friday a temporary ban from the practice of medicine against radiologist Alain Houpert, also an LR senator from Côte-d’Or, for “ethical faults” after certain captures positions. controversial during the covid-19 pandemic.

Seized from three complaints, the first instance disciplinary chamber imposed on Alain Houpert a ban from practicing medicine for a total of 18 months, nine of which were suspended.

The final part of the sanction will run from January to September 2023, the chamber said.

“Almost irresponsible attitude”

The first complaint had been filed by the union of the French Union for Free Medicine, the second by the Côte-d’Or Departmental Council of the Order of Physicians and four doctors, the third by the National Council of Medical Orders. Each complaint resulted in a conviction against Alain Houpert.

The disciplinary chamber justified its decision by denouncing the “almost irresponsible attitude” of the radiologist, who had signed and retransmitted on Twitter the manifesto “Let them prescribe” defending a treatment based on honey, vitamin D and hydroxychloroquine in particular.

This behavior could only “increase the media confusion of the time” and “strongly discredit the actions taken by the health authorities in the context of the fight against a planetary pandemic”, notes the disciplinary chamber.

Appears in the documentary “Hold Up”

He also condemns his appearance in the conspiracy documentary “Hold Up”, in which he invites “all doctors to rebel”. These statements “should be seen as an adherence to the attacks distilled by opponents of the measures decided by the health authorities,” judges the room.

Asked by AFP, Alain Houpert’s parliamentary office announced that “it takes note of the sentence and has nothing to add for the moment.” He has 30 days to appeal.
