The meeting, convened by PS President Carlos César, is scheduled for 10 a.m. in Parque das Nações and will begin with an intervention by Socialist leader António Costa on the country’s political situation.
This intervention by António Costa will take place ten days after resigning from his post as Prime Minister, after his name was involved in a lawsuit over business with lithium, hydrogen and the installation of a data center in Sines.
After his resignation, the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, last Tuesday, after receiving the parties with parliamentary representation and meeting the Council of State, made an announcement to the country on Thursday calling early. parliamentary elections on March 10.
In a note released today, the PS indicates that the agenda for Saturday’s meeting includes a proposal to change the date of the XXIV National Congress and bring it forward to January 6 and 7, 2024, which was planned for the period before the political crisis between March 15 and 17.
Three weeks earlier, the PS will hold direct elections on December 16 and 17 to succeed António Costa as leader of the PS, with the candidacies of the former deputy general secretary and current Minister of the Interior, José Luís Carneiro, already on the agenda. ground. , and former minister and current Socialist deputy Pedro Nuno Santos.
