Yannick Jadot will not participate in the march against expensive life this Sunday

On the occasion of a long interview granted to Liberation, the environmentalist indicates that he will not be on Sunday. According to him, the “priority” must be “building the social movement with the unions.”

Yannick Jadot will not demonstrate this Sunday. “I will probably go to play sports”, indicates the environmentalist candidate of the last presidential elections (4.63%) to Releasewhile that same day, the different components of the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) organize a march “against the high cost of living and climate inaction.”

Not a surprise coming from the former Greenpeace. Since the leftist coalition was formed during the last legislative elections, it has always shown its reticence. “Given the brutality of the crisis, our priority should be to build the social movement with the unions”, justifies Yannick Jadot, before specifying:

“I don’t blame anyone for going to this march, but I would have preferred that we put as much energy into supporting the movement organized by the unions on September 29.”

The centrals had requested on this occasion a salary increase, while showing their discontent with the pension reform planned by the Executive.

Criticism of Sandrine Rousseau

Invited to Sunday’s march, the unions turned down the invitation. Philippe Martínez, general secretary of the CGT, then warned against a “mixing of genres.” For Yannick Jadot, it is necessary to work more with the unions at the legislative level.

“To the last days of summer from the environmentalists […] Philippe Martinez rightly pointed out to us that when we work on legal texts, we never call them… It’s a mistake”, he explains, still in the columns of Release.

And the MEP to criticize the Nupes:

“Demonstrating on our corner or calling for a “general strike” on the radio in the morning as if it were a game, will not be enough to reconnect with the workers, alleviate their difficulties and support their aspirations.”

A reference to the statements made recently by his opponent in the second round of the environmental primaries: Sandrine Rousseau. The Paris parliamentarian called on Wednesday for a “general strike movement” on the microphone of France Info, explaining that “the anger in the country is such […] that there really is room to block and change the policies implemented by the government.
