This Wednesday in the National Assembly, the rebel deputy Carlos Martens Bilongo questioned the government about a migrant boat currently blocked in the Mediterranean. In the midst of his speech, a deputy of the National Group, Grégoire de Fournas, launched a racist arrest.
“Let him go back to Africa”, launched the Gironde deputy, without knowing if he was addressing the rebel deputy or if he was referring to the migrant ship.
The session stopped
“Who is the deputy who just said this sentence?” asked the president of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet directly, while the Nupes deputies were outraged.
He then asked the Government to end the interrogation, “given the seriousness of the facts” and the “legitimate emotion” that this arrest aroused.
“Racism has no place in our democracy,” Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne warned during the process, indicating that “naturally,” the office of the National Assembly “will have to take sanctions.”
“This phrase was kidnapped by France Insoumise”
Questioned by BFMTV, Grégoire de Fournas defended himself by explaining that his sentence had been “kidnapped by La France insoumise” which would seek “excuses to interrupt the session”.
The RN deputy assures that he was not referring to the rebel deputy Carlos Martens Bilongo but to the migrant boat stranded in the Mediterranean Sea. “It is a controversy that has no place,” he added.
Grégoire de Fourns also said he would not apologize “for something he did not.”
