The Senate decided to apply article 38 of its internal regulations overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday to speed up the debates on article 7 of the pension reform, while several hundred amendments by the elected leftists still have to be discussed.
The “closure of the debates”, provided for in article 38 of the regulation, was proposed by the president of the group Les Républicains Bruno Retailleau on the series of amendments aimed at the suppression of article 7 carried out by the left. It was voted by show of hands despite protests from left-wing senators.
“What a shame! (…) You let yourself be gagged by article 47-1 of the Constitution, now you want to gag the opposition,” denounced the socialist Patrick Kanner.
