The National Rally will organize a “day of the nation” on May 1 in Le Havre, a militant banquet that will conclude with speeches by Jordan Bardella and Marine Le Pen, according to information obtained from the party.
The far-right party, which expects more than a thousand militants, intends to meet again with its great rally on May 1, the date on which Jean-Marie Le Pen gathered his troops in Paris for 25 years under the statue of Jeanne-d ‘ Arco, a historical figure of the National Front (FN) that became the National Group (RN).
“Focus on work and social”
The last edition, held in 2015, had given rise to strong tensions between Marine Le Pen, president of the party, and her father, honorary president, who had taken the stage without prior notice. Jean-Marie Le Pen was finally expelled from the FN a few weeks later.
If the National Group wanted to settle this legacy that had become cumbersome, which also gave rise to provocations by ultra-activists every year, it intends to keep the date of May 1 “to emphasize labor and social issues,” we in the party indicate.
“The health crisis has penalized the movement for May 1, but we maintain the social aspect,” Jordan Bardella assured this Monday in the columns of the Parisian.
The choice of Le Havre may also surprise: the port city, a center-right and communist stronghold, had placed Marine Le Pen in third position during the first round of the 2022 presidential election with 20.67%. She only got 36.55% of the vote in the runoff, almost 5 points less than her national score.
