Shortly after midnight from Wednesday to Thursday, the senators voted in favor of article 7 of the pension reform, which raises the legal retirement age to 64 years. “It is above all a vote of responsibility of the Senate”, Olivier Dussopt greeted a few minutes later.
In a duplex on BFMTV, the Minister of Labor welcomed “the option” of the senators “to follow the government and support the text in the part related to age.”
“We have disagreements, we have discussions with the Senate, it is normal, but on the question of age, on the answers to be given to the structural deficit, we will thus be able to gradually increase the retirement age”, continues Olivier Dussopt.
It also underlines the “vast majority” (201 votes in favor, 115 against) of last night’s vote. In detail, senators from the groups Los Republicanos, Unión Centrista, Agrupación de Demócratas, Progresistas e Independientes and Independientes – Republica y Territorios voted in favor. However, two LR senators voted against it and 15 abstained.
The reform voted in the Senate on Sunday?
“We want to reach the end of the text in the Senate,” the minister also said. The government has given senators until Sunday night to review the entire pension reform.
But, due to the behavior of the elected leftists, described as “obstruction” by Olivier Dussopt, the timing seems very tight. Indeed, there are still a thousand amendments to study in four days.
“I don’t know if we will be able to vote on Sunday night or if the obstruction from the left will prevent it,” Senator LR Roger Karoutchi launched earlier into the BFMTV microphone.
