After the reduction of the retirement age to 64 years, it is the turn of article 8 on long career that will be approved by the senators with 245 votes in favor and 94 against.
Heavily contested, this part of the bill had drawn strong criticism in the National Assembly but much less agitation in the Senate. Some people who started working early could, depending on their circumstances, having to work 44 years instead of the 43 years established by the bill.
The vagueness remains on long runs.
The Prime Minister had made a concession on the long-career system on February 16 during topical questions in the National Assembly by announcing that people who started working at 17 could retire after 43 annuities.
But the government’s amendment, presented calmly, did not mention the new age limit of 17, but rather 21. People who started working at 16 or 18 should continue contributing at 44.
During the last day of the session at the Palais-Bourbon, Olivier Dussopt had announced that he would finally assume on behalf of the government the amendment of the deputy LR Aurélien Pradié that defended the 43 annuities for all long races. Relaunched several times by the opposition, the Minister of Labor had refused, however, to specify the contours of the evolution.
Premium cap for mothers
The impact of the reform on women’s pensions occupied the debates for a long time during the examination of Article 8. To compensate for the career cuts for women linked to maternity, the Senate botched the reform. A modification that depends on article 8 has been adopted to allow a pension surcharge for women mothers of at least one child who have a full career between 63 and 64 years of age.
They may have a pension increased by 1.25% quarterly within the limit of 5%. Bruno Retailleau, the head of the LR senators, had put “a red line” to force the government to position itself in favor of this provision.
Before the reform, women who left at the legal retirement age of 62 had a 1.25% more pension for each additional quarter paid, or 10% more for working between 62 and 64 years. With this government supported amendment, they will walk away with 5% more to complete 2 more years.
Until Sunday at midnight
Denouncing “a decline but a less unfair decline”, part of the senatorial left voted in favor. With this government supported amendment, they will walk away with 5% more to complete 2 more years.
The review of the bill continues with 12 articles still to be reviewed. The senators must have finished their discussions by Sunday at midnight, according to the limited time set by the government.
