After the decision, the explanations. The day after the activation of article 49.3 of the Constitution to approve the unpopular pension reform, the government justifies its decision.
The Minister of Labor, Olivier Dussopt, said this Friday morning on BFMTV-RMC that the Executive would have preferred a vote in Parliament on the text on pensions.
It also ensures that the Government “has done everything up to the last minute” to try to pass the bill.
The minister also explains that the decision to resort to 49.3 was made on Thursday because the executive “found that there was no not enough guarantees for such an important text and that the risk zone was too large” to see the rejected text.
“(The government) wanted to go to the vote”
Same speech by the government spokesman. Olivier Véran assures this Friday in France Inter that the Executive has “wanted to avoid until the end (49.3)” to approve the reform.
Public Accounts Minister Gabriel Attal also said on LCI on Friday that “(the government) wanted to go to the vote.” “The Prime Minister has decided that what is at stake in this text justifies her commitment to government responsibility,” he adds.
“Obviously, nobody wanted to go to 49.3,” he insists.
The blame placed on the LR deputies
The members of the Government reject the responsibility of the use of 49.3 in the deputies of LR opposed to the reform, leaving the latter to the Executive with the fear of not being able to count on the necessary majority to vote on the text.
“On the text of pensions, there is (…) a moment when it was necessary to do the math and a moment when the LR deputies decided to make politics in relation to the general interest”, laments Olivier Véran in particular.
“The deputies (LR) have chosen to say that they would vote against or that they would not vote in favour”, underlines Gabriel Attal once again.
The Liot group of independents is due to file a cross-party vote of no confidence on Friday to overthrow the government. Jean-Luc Mélenchon announced this Friday that he will have the support of La France insoumise in the National Assembly.
