Three videos, no more. If you use an ad blocker, your YouTube viewing sessions may be significantly shortened. The Google platform has confirmed to the specialized site The Verge that it is carrying out “a small experiment on a global scale.”
As part of the company’s testing, it is no longer possible to use an ad-blocker. After three videos viewed with such software, it will no longer be possible to take advantage of the platform, explains the Android Authority site, based on a Reddit post showing a device alert.
Deactivate your software or pay
YouTube’s goal is to preserve its business model. In order to be profitable, but also to return money to its creators, the site runs ads before, during and after the available videos. But many users bypass this system by using an ad blocker. And this while the practice is prohibited by the terms of use of the site.
The platform ensures that in case of detection of ad blocking software, notifications will be sent to the user. Only if the internet user repeatedly ignores them will the video playback become impossible.
For YouTube, it’s also about promoting their YouTube Premium service. This subscription offers several benefits, such as the removal of ads or the ability to download videos for offline viewing. It is offered in France at 11.99 euros per month. A family version allows you to benefit from the service in five accounts for 17.99 euros per month.
