The discovery lasted just 10 days. European users can no longer use the Threads app, the new social network introduced by Meta on July 5. A competitor to Twitter, Threads was not officially available in Europe, due to European legislation on the protection of private data. Meta must first comply with future regulations on digital markets and services (DMA and DSA).
Except that on some specialized sites, downloading an APK file was offered so that you could still discover the application on your Android device. On the iPhone, the process was a bit more complex but still accessible, tweaking a few settings on the phone.
“Content not available”
But Meta probably did not like the diversion, which would have decided a few hours ago to block the application to users based in Europe. On Twitter, many Internet users indicate that they can no longer post messages on the social network, either in the application or in the web version.
Some screenshots also show that the content cannot be played, saying “content not available” or “sorry, there was an error. Please try again.”
Measures taken to prevent access
Contacted by Tech&Co to find out the reasons for this unavailability of the application, Meta claims to be the cause of this blockage.
The American company adds that Europe “continues to be an important market for Meta” and that they hope to be able to make the Threads app accessible to European users in the future.
