In the face of attacks on secularism at school, the government is calling TikTok to account. The leaders of the social network were summoned this Thursday night to a meeting at the Ministry of Youth around the Secretary of State Sarah El Haïry and Jean-Noël Barrot, delegate minister in charge of the digital transition.
The government thus expects a reaction from the platform to the multiplication of videos that encourage young women to “test” colleges and high schools on the use of ostentatious religious symbols.
A trend already noted before the start of the school year in September by the Interministerial Committee for the Prevention of Delinquency and Radicalization (CIPDR), which had accused the “Islamist movement” of questioning “the principle of secularism in schools” by pressing on particular on Twitter or TikTok.
“The Republic stronger than TikTok”
Last week, Education Minister Pap Ndiaye confirmed an “increase in acts of attack on the principle of secularism” in schools, colleges and high schools.
And the Chinese social network was already in the Executive’s crosshairs: “The Republic is stronger than TikTok”, the minister had crushed, also mentioning the “advice that certain ill-intentioned influencers can give teenagers to circumvent the law” . This question also refers to extracurricular and extracurricular care.
In some videos posted on TikTok, the young women recommend, for example, turtlenecks to hide their necks and hats to hide their veils. Videos that are sometimes viewed hundreds of thousands of times.
