An important security defect. As 404Media reports, the messaging application used by some members of the White House was pirated in less than 20 minutes.
Specifically, a hacker has managed to enter Telemassage, a company that provides modified versions of platforms encrypted as a signal, WhatsApp or Telegram. This is to automatically file the exchanged messages. The Signal Telemassage version was remarkably used by Mike Waltz, the national security advisor of the Trump administration, already at the origin of “Gate signal“
The problem is that these copies of the networks are far from being safe. In fact, the messages, which are supposed to be encrypted from beginning to end, are actually stored in external servers that are sometimes not very safe. As a result, it is very easy for a cybercriminal to have access to these data.
“About 15 to 20 minutes”
The hacker could not access all the exchanges of senior officials. However, he was able to obtain extracts of conversations, certain names and coordinates of US officials and policies or even connection identifiers. The data of certain customs workers, the Municipal Police of Washington DC or even the employees of Coinbase and the Bank of Scotland were also pirate.
The pirate was able to steal an exchange on strategies that will be implemented to adopt a controversial bill on cryptocurrencies.
The hacker does not intend to reveal conversations. I wanted to pirarate Telemassage because I was “curious to know how safe it was the application.” “If I could find this in less than 30 minutes, then any other person could do it too. And who has known how long the application is vulnerable?”
“We cannot guarantee the properties of confidentiality or the safety of unofficial signal versions,” recalls the platform.
This is not the first time that the United States government messages have committed. Last March, a detailed attack plan for the raids led by Americans against Vait Houtis was transmitted by accident to a journalist through signal messages.
National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, one of the highest US administration officials, also used his private Gmail account for official conversations.
