“Rectify certain false things that have been said.” This May 18, the American YouTubeur Mrbeast wanted to explain to X (former owner) about his latest controversial video.
On May 10, the creator most often in the world put his video entitled “I explored the temples of 2,000 years.” In this publication, Mr. Visit Visit Mayan cities De Calakmul, Chichen Itzá and Balamcanché, in southeastern Mexico. The problem is that the video is far from being unanimous.
“People spread lies”
Some Internet users accuse him of having lacked respect for local culture. Accusations refuted by the director in question.
“I am sad to see people spread lies,” he continues. The YouTubeur claims to have filmed with “all the necessary authorizations”, to have followed the official directives. It would also have been supervised by representatives of Mexican government agencies and archaeologists “to ensure that we were exact”, and representatives of the sites “to ensure that we reign the rules.”
Other Internet users have also criticized it for having access to limited areas, considered sacred in the Mayan culture, and having used them to promote their chocolate brand.
“A great announcement”
“They knew we were going to mention feastable in the video. But out of respect for the sites, the sequence was filmed outside of any national monument. The dinner scene during which I joked about feastable was not close to a Mayan temple,” he insists.
As Mr. Rbeast specifies, the state governor would also have defended him. In a screenshot shared by the YouTubeur, the governor specifies that Mrbeast’s video represents “a great announcement for the state, with more than 56 million visits in a few days.”
The most often YouTuber in the world finally ensures that it has financed “Projects for the Supply of Pozos y Agua” in the State and having worked with the National Institute of Archeology and History (INAH) in a background destined to support local Mexican archeology and the new discoveries.
For its part, the INAH said that on May 15, although he authorized the filming in the sites, he had not authorized the use of Mayan sites for lucrative purposes. The organization would consider legal procedures against the video production company.
