The double authentication reaches the tax site

The tax site establishes the double authentication to further ensure the connection. The measure follows an increase in fraudulent connection attempts.

The tax site strengthens your safety. As of this Wednesday, June 25, it will be necessary to go through the double authentication to access taxes. Gouv, according to a press release available on the site.

It is a safer connection method than a traditional password. After entering their tax and password number, the user will have to enter a code to six received in their personal email address. Once the process is carried out, the device will be recognized during the next six months and will not require a new double authentication during this period.

The French in question must receive an email that details the implementation of this new authentication. The procedure takes longer but is necessary before a resurgence of online scams.

Procedure against Phishing

The General Directorate of Public Finance (DGFIP) provided to implement this new system after the 2024 income statement campaign (which ended on June 5, 2025). Taxes.gouv, therefore, follows the path of many sites that have adopted this connection method, such as Ameli (the health insurance site).

These measures follow an increase in fraudulent connection attempts, explained the DGFIP in April. Hook (or phishing) has gained remarkably certain success in cybercriminals.

More and more malicious Internet users send emails or SMS when approved for tax authorities, therefore, recover the identifiers of their victims. These fraudulent messages require sums of money or offer reimbursement to unaffected users.

If it is safer, double authentication is not perfect. It was only learned a few days ago that SMS authentication or email included some risks. However, it is still a good way to hinder the access of cybercriminals to their personal data.

In case of difficulties with double authentication, users can contact 0809 401 401 to benefit from the help of a DGFIP agent.
