Messaging, group conversations… Threads, X’s competing application, multiplies the news and, this time, Europe has the right to them

To attract new users, Meta’s latest addition implements group discussions. The private messaging system also extends to the European Union.

Threads is intensifying its strategy to attract new users, and step a little further into the territory of X, formerly Twitter. The Meta platform, which has more than 400 million monthly active users, is multiplying new functionalities.

As reported by Techcrunch, starting Wednesday, October 15, Threads users can create group discussions of up to 50 people. In group chats, Threads users 18 and older will be able to share text, videos, GIFs, and emojis. As in all other social networks, therefore.

Messaging arrives in the European Union

Over time, users will be able to name their group chats and invite others by sharing a link to the chat, rather than adding them one by one. A search function by interest groups will also be added “soon.” Enough to facilitate exchanges between members of a specific community.

However, conversations will not be end-to-end encrypted. The goal is not to make Threads a secure messaging service, but rather a space to discuss current topics or common passions, like a soccer game, Taylor Swift’s latest album, or crochet.

“We see messaging as a way for people to connect more deeply with the people they’re already conversing with. It’s really about deepening relationships with people who share your interests,” says Emily Dalton Smith, vice president of product management at Threads during a press conference.

And that is not the only news for users in the European Union. Meta announced the gradual launch of Threads messaging in the European Union. The feature was rolled out to many markets last summer. The company was still looking for a way to comply with the Digital Markets Regulation (DMA). It’s already done. European users will therefore fully benefit from individual and collective discussions.
