Basque and Corsican reach Google Translate (but not Breton)

Google has announced the addition of 33 new languages to its translation application. Thus two French regional languages appeared.

The goal is to reach 1000 available languages. Following up on its announcements in early November, Google has added 33 new languages to its Google Translate app. The group now makes it possible to translate Basque or Corsican, while Breton is still missing.

Better contextualization

Among the other languages offered, it is now possible to translate texts into Hawaiian, Hmong, Kurdish, Latin, Luxembourgish, Sudanese, Yiddish, or even Zulu. The other benefit of this update is being able to register more languages within the app. By doing this, Google Translate no longer needs to be online to decipher words.

The company claims to have revised contextualization upwards for translations from English, French, German, and Japanese. The app will also understand Spanish better in the coming months.

In addition, the iOS application for Apple devices will benefit in a few weeks from the improvements already made to the Android version. These design changes should allow for a larger frame when used with Google Lens. This should lead to easier content integration, but also improve the accessibility of entry points.
