WWF uses artificial intelligence to raise awareness of upcoming ecological disasters

The organization has generated a dozen tables to present the future potential of UK landscapes, based on the latest scientific projections relating to the environment.

WWF, an environmental NGO, has used artificial intelligence to reinterpret mythical UK landscapes destroyed by environmental disasters.

Within the framework of the exhibition “The future of nature”, we can see paintings inspired by the greatest romantic artists that represent the moors and forests of the country flooded by great waters, invaded by waste, pollution or even facing large fires .

“For centuries our artists have celebrated the wilderness of the UK. These islands of nature have been romanticized and glorified as picture-perfect bucolic landscapes, where abundant wildlife lived in harmony with humans. Had this been the case, it certainly is not So”. Today we are one of the countries where nature has become more impoverished, with 1 in 7 endemic species on the verge of extinction”, warns the NGO.

A prediction of our future

Themes such as pollution, hunger and endangered species are addressed in these AI-generated paintings to represent what WWF calls “a prediction of our future, based on the latest scientific projections.”

In return for these grim predictions, the organization also used artificial intelligence to generate a series of paintings depicting a more peaceful future, while reminding that “even though these paintings are not real […]The fate of our future is in our hands.”

Artificial intelligence, such as Midjourney software, makes it possible to create stunning images from accurate descriptions. However, these works that have the wind in their sails can sometimes be the subject of debates related to the risks of misinformation.
