“I have 100 euros in my pocket. Offer me a week of balanced meals for a family of four.” These are the types of questions you can ask Hopla, the AI-powered chatbot launched by Carrefour. A first for retail.
It is accessible from this Friday, for all customers, on the home page of the Carrefour.fr website. Connected to ChatGPT, the conversational AI of the American company OpenAI, Hopla can also offer recipe ideas and make the precise list of ingredients, adapting to the requested budget.
You can also offer recipe ideas based on what’s left in the fridge, this time suggesting new ingredients to fill out the list. Obviously, all at breakneck speed and always adapting to the customer’s wishes (organic, gluten-free, etc.).

But the Carrefour chatbot does not stop there: it can also offer a basket of fruits and vegetables for a week, for 4 people, limiting itself to a budget of 30 euros, for example. Therefore, the ambition is to optimize the races as well as possible, in a context of inflation.
Lastly, Hopla will make it easier and much faster to fill out product sheets. 2,000 references have already been entered on the Carrefour site, with the aim of covering all products sold.
Hopla continues learning, we warned in Carrefour. It can then be further customized to better understand the habits of your customers.
“The integration of OpenAI technologies is a great opportunity for Carrefour. By being pioneers in the use of generative AI, we want to take a step forward and invent the commerce of tomorrow”, welcomed Alexandre Bompard, CEO of the Carrefour Group.
