This Monday, the PS welcomed the victory of former President Lula da Silva in the first round of the Brazilian presidential election, as his triumph in the second round will mean the victory of progressive and democratic values over authoritarian urges.
In the first round of Brazil’s presidential election on Sunday, former President Lula da Silva won with 48% of the vote, while the current head of state, Jair Bolsonaro, won 43.2%.
In a note to the Lusa bureau, the PS states that “Brazilians gave an expressive and important signal for their future on Sunday”.
“PS salutes Lula da Silva, the candidate with the most votes in the first round of the presidential elections, and formulates votes for Brazil to reject authoritarian and anti-democratic urges. Lula’s victory will be the victory of progressive and democratic values,” emphasizes on the same note.
The second round of the Brazilian presidential election is scheduled for October 30.
