The G7 meets urgently on Tuesday
The Russian bombings on an unparalleled scale for months on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities will be at the center of the discussions of the members of the G7 this Tuesday, which the British Prime Minister, Liz Truss, should call for not “weakening or an iota”. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will participate in this emergency virtual meeting scheduled from 12 pm GMT (2 pm in France), Berlin said.
According to London, Liz Truss, head of government for a month, should declare that “no one wants peace more than Ukraine. And for our part, we must not waver one iota in our determination to help win.”
At least eleven dead and 89 wounded
Deadly Russian bombardments that hit Ukraine on Monday morning left at least 11 dead and 89 wounded, according to the latest police report, including five in Kyiv, targeted for the first time since June 26 by missiles.
“They are trying to destroy us all, to wipe us off the face of the Earth,” Volodymyr Zelensky reacted Monday morning as Russian missiles hit Ukrainian cities.
But “Ukraine cannot be intimidated”, he then launched in his evening speech, promising to “repair everything that has been destroyed”.
A new wave of displacement is expected after the Russian attacks in Ukraine
More people will be forced to flee their homes in Ukraine, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi warned on Monday after Monday’s Russian bombing. Since Russia launched its invasion on February 24, more than 7.6 million Ukrainian refugees have been registered across Europe.
“I fear that the events of the last few hours will cause new displacements,” the Italian diplomat told reporters.
At the UN, Ukraine accuses Russia of being a “terrorist state”
Ukraine on Monday accused Russia of being a “terrorist state” at the UN for having killed civilians by massively attacking Kyiv and major cities, bombings denounced by the United Nations and the West.
“Russia has once again shown that it is a terrorist state that must be deterred in the strongest possible way,” Ukraine’s ambassador to the UN Sergiy Kyslytsya insisted.
