A Jewish school complex in the center of Rome was evacuated this Wednesday after a bomb threat that, shortly after, the police in the Italian capital revealed that it was a security exercise. A spokeswoman for the authorities explained to AFP that for this reason police officers and canine units were on the scene, while the streets around the school in Rome’s historic ghetto were blocked.
The police press office explained that they went ahead with the security exercise because they were concerned about the consequences of the war between Hamas and Israel.
The Jewish community of Rome, in a statement, confirmed that “what happened this morning at the Jewish school was an exercise.” In a previous note sent to the Italian media, the community claimed that the evacuation had been triggered by an anonymous phone call.
